NEXT ASGH MEETING
DATE - May 15, 2013
7:30 PM - Sharp! Annual Elections will take place at this meeting
.
Speaker: Dr. Adam
Reiss, John Hopkins University. Title: Supernovae and the Discovery
of the Accelerating Universe
Featured
Speaker:
May 15, 2013 Meeting: Jeremy Bradford Title: " The Darkness in Our Universe"
Abstract: After
nearly 80 years since its discovery, dark matter is still a mystery. Dark
matter makes up the majority of the mattter in our universe, yet we cannot see
it and we have yet to detect it directly. While dark mater is elusive to
direct detection with telescopes; astronomers have developed indirect detection
detection methods using dark matter's effect on the structure of the
universe. Using this effect, coupled with recent advancs in direct
particle detection, we are nearing one of the most exciting scientific
discoveries of our time.
Jeremy is a first year graduate student in astronomy at Yale Universtity. He received his B.S. from Central State Connecticut University and is currently working towards his PhD as a Gruber Science Fellow at Yale University.

for $32.95 if they so desire as part of the membership package. See
Membership for full details. NOTE:
the increase in S&T.
Where
We Meet:
