They are asking if ASGH can host a stargazing event, including an intro to the telescope.

Scotland Public Library (Lecture/Stargazing Event):

July 11. 9pm. Approx 12-20 participants or possibly more, family groups. The Scotland Public Library will be hosting a Space themed Summer reading program. They are asking if ASGH can do a short stargazing lecture followed by stargazing.

East Hartford Public Library Children’s Library (Lecture/Stargazing Event):

July 17, 7:30pm.  The Children’s Library is looking for a program in the evening about telescopes and the night sky, followed by a stargazing session.

Enfield Public Library Children’s Library (Lecture/Stargazing Event):

July 30.  Time 7:45pm.  Event details TBD.  The Children’s Library is looking for a presentation in the evening, theme “A Universe of Stories”, followed by stargazing.

Rocky Hill Public Library (Lecture/Stargazing Event):

August 6, 8pm, at the Cora Belden Library in Rocky Hill.  Approx 20 youth participants of various ages. Similar to the Bristol Public Library, the Cora Belden Library in Rocky Hill is planning a space-themed summer.  They are asking if ASGH can do a short talk followed by stargazing.

Lebanon Campground Stargazing Party (Stargazing Event):

August 10 **This event has been cancelled**

Town of Ellington Trails Committee (Stargazing Event):

August 15, Approx 30-40 participants. The Town of Ellington Trails Committee is planning a Moonlight Hike at 7:30pm to promote the town’s trail system.  The night picked is a full moon night to promote hiking safety.  The trail includes an open field with an accessible road and parking lot where we can easily set up. ASGH setup can begin at 7pm, hikers should return at 8:30 pm, a few participants may choose to stay and observe instead of hiking. The address is 63 Pinney St (Ellington Pinney Fields), Ellington, CT 06029.

Simsbury Public Library (Lecture):

August 19, time TBD.  The Simsbury Public Library will be hosting a Space themed Summer reading program.  The library is reaching out to see if ASGH offers lectures to the public or only stargazing outreach.  Their summer reading theme this year is Space and a program on astronomy would fit in perfectly.

Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation (Stargazing Event):

September 19, 7:30-9:30 PM. Approx 20-40 participants. The Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation is planning its first Stargazing Night at Hartford’s historic Cedar Hill Cemetery.  This will be a free event.  Guests will be asked to pre-register. ASGH has volunteered to do a short outdoor talk followed by a stargazing session. NOTE that for safety reasons the event is taking place prior to astronomical sunset. Possible bright objects to view will include the moon, Jupiter, and Saturn.

Talcott Mountain Science Center Skygazing:

Thursday October 17, starting at 6:30PM.  Approx. 20 participants, probably more. 324 Montevideo Road, Avon, CT
Looking for a few volunteers to assist with the Center’s telescopes. Observers are given an indoor planetarium presentation, and then head outdoors for actual observing using the Center’s 16″ SCT, 10″ SCT , and other telescopes. In case of inclement weather event will be postponed to Friday October 18.

Willington Public Library (Lecture/Stargazing Event):

October 22 (rain date October 29).  Approx 30 participants of various ages. Similar to the other libraries in the state, the Willington Public Library is planning a space-themed summer.  They are happy to hold off their outreach until October in deference to our busy schedule.  They are asking if ASGH can do a short talk followed by stargazing.

Glastonbury-East Hartford Elementary Magnet School (Lecture/Stargazing Event):

95 Oak Street, Glastonbury, CT 06033. November 7, time 5:30 – 7:30pm (subject to change). Looking for several members to participate in stargazing for a group of elementary school kids and families. NOTE: This is a well-attended event that can draw LOTS of stargazers, so the more volunteers the better.  Families start off indoors at a planetarium science presentation and come out to us in groups during the evening, so we wouldn’t be getting the entire swarm all at once… good news.

Shoreline Trolley Museum (Lecture/Stargazing Event):

November 16, time 3pm – TBD.  ASGH volunteers will be asked to arrive at the trolley museum at 3pm to board the trolley for a scenic ride to the stargazing spot out on the marsh.
ASGH will participate in scout presentations between 4pm and 6pm.
Stargazing in the marsh between 6pm and 8pm for scouts and general public.

Berlin Boy Scouts Campout (Stargazing Event):

November 22 **This event has been cancelled**
