Town of Rocky Hill – Cora Belden Library (Lecture & Stargazing Event):
October 4 (postponed from August 17), 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm, possibly earlier for the lecture. The Cora Belden Library in Rocky Hill is asking if we could host a sidewalk stargazing session.  We did one several years ago that was very popular.

I have proposed delivering a 30 minute talk on ‘observing tools’ and ‘what is reasonably visible in our light-polluted skies’.  This will be followed by an outdoor observing session, weather permitting. October 4 is a decent date.  Sunset is rather early at 6:27pm.  We have a waxing gibbous moon at 72% illumination high in the south.  That’s bright, but a nice target for a small telescope.  Saturn and Jupiter will be easily accessible.  We may even get a glimpse of Neptune in the southeast near Jupiter if the Moon lets us.

NOTE: The library has also purchased their own Orion StarBlast 4.5 (tabletop Dobsonian) as a loaner unit, and is asking that we give a brief overview of its use before or during the observing session.

Middlefield Cub Scout Pack 33 – Peckham Park, Middlefield, CT (Stargazing Event):
Date TBD (cancelled 10/1/2022 due to weather), 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm. The event will be held outside the pavilion in Peckham Park. The scouts will be there all day and night for their campout and they were hoping to have the opportunity to look through some telescopes while they are out in the field. The pack will be a large group of scouts age 5 to 11 y/o and their parents. Sunset is approximately 6:30 pm. We will have the moon in the south, as well as Saturn and Jupiter.
