April 22, 2021: Granby Senior Center (Lecture Event)
August 12, 2021: The East Granby Community Center/Land Trust is asking if anyone would be available to come out one evening around the time of the Perseid Meteor Shower and do (I quote) “a little presentation and help us do some night sky viewing the second week of August”. I have put together a presentation on meteor showers, with emphasis on the Perseids, if someone would be available to help out with the viewing portion. The organizer anticipated between 6-30 participants. This one is well-staffed, and THANK YOU to our volunteers!
August 21, 2021: New England Air Museum Space Expo. With the easing of the state’s Covid restrictions, the Air Museum is moving ahead with plans for holding Space Expo as planned on August 21. I have sent in our registration form for a table for ASGH. The rules are slightly different than previous years. No exhibitors will be allowed to set up in the B-29 hangar. And lunches will need to be eaten in the break room, not at our table (which means taking our lunch break in shifts, I guess). I have reserved one table and let them know that we will have four people in attendance. I will be one of those four. That leaves room for three more. Check-in and set up runs from 7:30-8:30, and the doors open to the public from 9:00-3:00. I plan on being there the whole time, but anyone is welcome to come for a partial day, morning or afternoon. (I believe Al and Cyndi have both agreed to be onsite at least part of the time). Anyone who has already agreed to attend this event, please respond to me and let me know.
September 3, 2021: Private Astronomy Event, This one is very un-typical of what we usually would do. I am including it to see if anyone would have any interest. I did respond to the requester and let her know that we, as a nonprofit, really do not do private events. A lady is getting married in the fall and she is a lifelong lover of astronomy and stargazing. She has a rehearsal dinner on September 3 at the Holiday Hill Retreat Center in Mansfield Center. She’s wondering if it would be possible to have some telescopes set up for her guests to look through, and maybe a ‘casual’ description of what they are seeing. If anyone is interested in doing this, please let me know and I can put you in touch with her. It may be a nice private outreach to a fellow stargazer. I let her know that I will be happy to help out myself, if anyone else is interested in joining me, please let me know.
